Beautiful eyes are the windows to the face and achieving smooth, full and fresh eyes areas can give the incredible appearance of youth and vitality. At 1 Cosmetic Group we strive to achieve this by Eyelid Rejuvenation Surgery, or Blepharoplasty.
Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift Surgery is a cosmetic procedure which dramatically improves the appearance of the eyes. Blepharoplasty refreshes the eyes by reducing any loose skin, fatty bulges and bags and by tightening the muscles around the eye, making your eyes look fresher and more awake.
Ageing around the eye area is a very common concern and is generally noticeable when a person reaches the age of 30. A number of factors contribute to this ageing, most notably genetics, sun exposure and a person’s lifestyle.
How can this procedure help me?
Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate the appearance of the eye area. The extent of improvement is variable depending on whether an upper, lower or combined blepharoplasty is required. Benefits of an eye lift include:
- Where overlying sagging skin is impairing vision, vision can be noticeably improved.
- Improved appearance of the area surrounding the eye, relieving and reducing the fatigued look.
- Wrinkle reduction.
- Immeasurable enhancement to one’s confidence and self-esteem.
The consultation process: What to expect
A consultation with a clinician is the first step when you are considering surgery. The initial appointment should last approximately 45 minutes. During the consultation, the doctor will ask you a variety of questions covering everything from your current health situation to details about the physical outcomes you desire. They will also want to discuss any current medications, allergies and any past or current medical treatments. You should always bear in mind that the desired result is improvement and not complete perfection.
The doctor will undertake a thorough examination of your eyes and how they relate to your face as a whole. Based on your history and examination, the doctor will provide you with a recommendation of the best eyelid surgery for you.
The recovery process and any possible complications which may arise will also be discussed. You are of course welcome and encouraged to ask any questions you may have about any aspect of the surgery.
The Procedure: What does it involve?
In upper eyelid surgery the doctor will make a small incision is to allow loose skin, loose muscle and deep fat to be removed. Fine stitches are used to close the incision.
Patients remain in hospital for under 24 hours and are allowed to go home with oral pain medications. Some bruising and swelling as well as blurred vision are common. Swelling should begin to decrease after the first week. You will be fit to return to work after one week to 10 days.
Taping and regular massage of the lower eyelid structures is encouraged in the immediate postoperative period, extending through the two to three weeks following your surgery. This will soften scarring and maintain the lower eyelids in the desired position. At times, the eyelids may temporarily be partially closed (tarsorrhaphy) to help with swelling and healing.
Incisions for upper and lower blepharoplasty are inconspicuous. They may be hidden inside the eyelids, or they may be placed below the lashes or inside the natural eyelid creases. Any noticeable scarring is likely to fade over time.
The exact cost of your eyelid surgery will be determined during your consultation. Prices vary according to the extent of correction needed and the techniques that will be applied. Combining your eyelid surgery with a facelift, brow lift, or other related procedure will also affect the cost. Other factors (location, hospital fees, surgical fees, and anaesthesia fees) are all accounted for in the final cost.
Minor discomfort can occur after eyelid surgery. Oral pain medications are used to control any associated pain during recovery. Eye drops are also used.
